From Alderman Ross Arnett:

The Annapolis City Council will meet Monday 3 April at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Public hearings will be followed by a legislative session. Although your attendance is preferred, all Council meetings are broadcast on Comcast channel 100 and on Verizon channel 34.

I will be holding a Town Hall Meeting this Wednesday at 7 PM at the Eastport Fire Station. Yes, that’s this Wednesday not the usual Thursday in order to accommodate the Mayor’s schedule.  The topic of the meeting is the proposed redevelopment plans for the Eastport Shopping Center.

The meeting will begin with my introduction of Mayor Michael Pantelides who will make some opening remarks about the shopping center proposal. That will be followed by a brief presentation by Leo Wilson our neighbor and the architect and planner for the project. Leo’s remarks will set the context for a presentation by Peter Gutwald, Director of the Department of Planning and Zoning. Pete will give a presentation of the planning process, explain the relevant City Code and finally tell us the current status of the proposal within the City process. There will be time for questions of the Director.

As planned the meeting will conclude with a three flip chart process where we will list the positives of the proposal, concerns about the proposal and any alternatives to the to the proposal you may wish to be considered. As in the past there will be a person at each flip chart to add comments from you and report a summary of those comments to the group for discussion.

Aside from hearing from all of the presenters and giving you a chance to express your views, a major purpose for the meeting is to provide information for the up coming citizen’s meeting with the Planning Commission in a work session. The overall goal is to find a proposal that most can accept. It’s worth noting that the developer’s proposal is changing on a virtually weekly basis in response to input from the Planning Staff and the community.

The conclusion of all of these efforts will be the public hearing by the Planning Commission of the final proposal from the developers. The Commission has the final authority to approve, deny or modify the redevelopment proposal.
